Date Night Idea: Camping Out Indoors

Date Night Camping Out

While camping in the great outdoors may not be for everyone, there’s no denying it can help couples reconnect and renew their relationship. In fact, one survey showed that couples who camp together have more sex during and after camping. This boost in romance came down to the lack of distractions from being alone, as well as being able to just relax.
Unfortunately, getting out in the wilderness isn’t always practical – or even desired. Luckily, you can reap the same benefits by taking the activity indoors. This provides the added benefit of climate control and being in a bug free zone! The closer you can reenact the feeling of being alone together, the more romantic it will be.

To plan this date night, you’ll need a few things. First, grab this free camp out invite for two printable!

  • String lights
  • Glow-in-the-dark stars
  • Tent (or make a blanket fort)
  • Air mattress
  • Lawn chairs
  • Blankets and pillows
  • Outdoorsy scented candles (your favorite scents)
  • Camping soundtrack or other mood music
  • Flashlights

  • Cooler and ice for cold beverages and food
  • Your favorite beverages
  • S’mores
  • Hot Chocolate
  • Your favorite camping food – for quick clean up, try thermos meals such as chili or soup.
  • Snacks such as trail mix, chips, etc.

The Plan

This is a pretty simple date night to set up. For maximum effect and romance, it’s best to have your “camping site” ready to go ahead of time. Use lights and the glow-in-the-dark stars to help create an outdoor feel. When using candles, make sure to keep them away from the bedding and tent. Depending on what you are planning for food, you may also want to have that made ahead of time as well. This is where thermos meals or crockpot dishes can come in pretty handy. Since this is indoor camping, you may even want to consider pizza or take-out as well.

The Rules
To replicate being isolated in the outdoors, the only real rule to follow is no electronic devices. The only exception is if they are being used to help enhance your experience such for music, an audiobook or watching a movie on Netflix. You also need to make sure that you won’t be disturbed either. This means if you have kiddos, plan this date night on a night they are having a sleepover.

Things To Do
If you’re not sure how to spend your evening camping out together, consider these ideas:

  • Tell ghost stories
  • Share about memories past
  • Play board games
  • Talk about your future
  • Read together or listen to an audiobook
  • Play a romantic board game
  • Watch a movie (benefit of being indoors!)
  • Have an old-fashioned teenage make out session!
